Video Game Video Analysis
I've watched a video called, Damsel in Distress Part 1, by Anita Sarkeesian.

This video was about how the video game industry uses the trope that women were weak and particularly, had no control over the situation that I'm in. But, it also taught me a few new things, like yes the industry uses this trope but it uses it as a way to make people be more observant to the issues it does bring up. What was noteworthy to me was the fact that it literally robbed women of their chance to be their own hero, in other words, let the women figure things out for a change and do not depend on men so much. Another thing I found noteworthy is that they used an analogy. It went a little like this, the hero and the villain are obviously on opposite teams but the woman isn't on any team, she is the ball.
In other words, she's being fought over. There are many advertisements that talk down to women indirectly. There was an ad for a Legend Of Zelda game where it said, "Will you get the girl? Or play like one?" It offended me because I think I'm alright when it comes to playing video games. Also, the video mentioned something about how no matter what powers or special talents the female characters have, they never truly have a chance to let those abilities shine through in a game. It affects our culture because it makes the belief that women are normally weak and powerless somewhat normal in our society. Even though it may not be true, young girls will see this and think it is. And if a male thinks like this, he can be abusive in any relationship with a female, whether it be their wife or their sister. I think the video is important because issues like misogyny are ongoing and rampant even in 2017, and I know many people will argue saying that it may not be the case.
